You will need to fly into Des Moines international airport (code: DSM). We have two airline sponsors who provide discounts on any fare:
Make sure to mention you are going to the useR conference.
You may find kayak.com useful. It is a travel search engine that searches all of the major airlines and resellers. When booking it will take you directly to the airline website.
Getting to Ames
Shuttles will be arranged according to the travel schedules of participants. We’ll be in touch about this with all participants some time in July. In arranging your travel allow an hour to get from Ames to Des Moines, and probably about an hour to get through airport security.
Leaving Ames
The conference will finish at 3pm. Ames is hosting a political straw poll on Saturday August 11, for which Ames is expecting an influx of people to town. It will probably be wise for many useR! 2007 attendees to avoid the rush and plan to fly out on Friday night.
Getting around Ames
We will run shuttles from the conference hotels to campus and various events.
Ames has two taxis (three on a busy night), so if you want one, make sure to book in advance
The best way to get around town is with the students on Cyride buses. It’s a $1 flat rate, and like most American buses, you will need exact change. The bus drivers are very friendly and are normally happy to help with directions.
